The ALG is currently accepting applications for two part-time positions — Outdoor Educator, and Montessori Teacher/Guide.

We are looking for a passionate educator who loves being outside playing with children. If you have a strong interest in alternative education, particularly child-led and forest school and/or Montessori philosophy then this is the job for you.
The Almonte Learning Garden (ALG), formerly the Montessori Learning Garden, is a private school and child-care centre that has been welcoming students since 2021, offering a combination of Montessori learning methods and outdoor Nature-based education. Our mission is to help each child develop an inquiring mind, a compassionate heart, and a responsive relationship with the world around them.
Description/Responsibilities:
- Implementing an enriching Nature School program
- Working closely with co-teacher to plan and prepare activities and projects utilizing natural materials that are locally foraged or sourced
- Working independently and having the ability to be flexible when required
- Effectively using the natural landscape in a variety of ways to foster learning and spark curiosity with the students
- Supporting student sense of wonder and integrate inquiry-based strategies that effectively extends student emergent interest
- Ensuring the safety of all children at all times
- Communicating effectively with ALG Guides/Teachers
- Communicating with parents effectively in person regarding the program
- Responding appropriately to the varying needs of children and implementing strategies that are individually focused and age appropriate, with an emphasis on compassion and respect
- Bringing personal strengths/expertise to share with the children
Possible Qualifications:
- Preferred: Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent, Montessori Instructor and/or Forest School Practitioner – but we also highly value lived experience and passion.
- Current First Aid with level C CPR (or able to complete prior to start date)
- Clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector
- Experience working with young children and experience working in an outdoor setting
- Physically capable of performing teaching duties with enthusiasm regardless of the weather (rain, sleet, snow, heat)
- Interest in and respect for Montessori style of education
- Understanding of the benefits child-led curriculum
- Assets: Interest or experience in the Montessori approach to early childhood education, Familiarity with the local flora and fauna, Expertise in any field which you can share with the children such as art, math, music, French or other language, or other.

- Having presence with the students that is calm, yet able to inspire
- Instilling joy of learning
- Working closely with co-teacher to plan and prepare activities and projects utilizing natural materials that are locally foraged or sourced
- Ensuring the safety of all children at all times
- Communicating effectively with ALG Guides/Teachers
- Communicating with parents effectively in person regarding the program
Qualifications:
- Montessori Teaching Diploma: MACTE or AMI
- Experience working with young children and experience working in an outdoor setting
- Understand of the benefits of child-led learning and nature-based education
- Current First Aid with level C CPR (or able to complete prior to start date)
- Clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector
- Assets: Interest or experience in the Forest/Nature School approach to early childhood education, familiarity with the local flora and fauna, expertise in a specific area of study such as math, art, music, French or other language, or other.
